TheBananaTimes.com – East Peels West

Originally a casual blog to write about things we love, is now an aspiring online journalistic entity aiming to report everything surrounding, revolving and related to the BANANA.

An online newspaper informing those with “Banana Culture” and even those without. Calling a person a banana in its basic cultural form describes Asian people whose identity consists of Asian roots as well as their Western influences. In Chinese it is known as “黄皮白肉”, literally meaning “yellow skin white meat”. Or simply put, “yellow on the outside, white on the inside” – hence the term banana.

We here at The Banana Times have diligently grasped this once offensive label, and reformed it as a cultural identity to be proud of. The Banana symbolizes the collaboration and blend between Eastern and Western ideals, something that goes beyond the walls of a nation or the restrictions of a language.

However, we here at The Banana Times assimilate ourselves with a “new school” Banana. Where a Banana is not only completely caucasian on the inside, but rather embodying a multicultural core. With this, we continue to learn, explore, create and encourage one’s multicultural capacity and one’s unrestricted capability to blend boundaries. In this globalized society, it certainly makes sense to adapt more than one set of values, especially in the name of artistic and personal expression.

Sincerely,
Philbert & Wilkin
